“Most people in the community realized that fighting amongst them was bad and it will not bring any progress to themselves and the community at large”
A story of community change from Bauchi state
We have been practicing Islam as a religion from generation to generation. Our land is blessed. We have fertile land and we are basically farmers and cattle rearers.
Even though we are like brothers and sisters, we used to experience a lot of domestic violence in the community. Husbands were fighting wives, wives fighting husbands or other family members. You can be in your house then you begin to hear shouting and abuses from your neighbours; the husband shouting at the wife and the wife shouting back and calling each other bad names.
After we watched your drama, we saw the way Fatima’s husband behaved towards her. She lost her child and almost her life. Most people in the community realized that fighting amongst them was bad and it will not bring any progress to themselves and the community at large. Therefore husbands made an effort to tolerate their wives and wives reciprocated in a similar way. Family members are now more supportive and they show more concern for each other. I am telling you we have seen changes in this community. You hardly hear people fighting in our community these days. We are now living in peace and harmony with each other.
