“They have formed groups to help each other with their different farm lands”
A story of community change from Bauchi state
In this community it would interest you to know that women are culturally made to do all the domestic work. This includes cooking, washing, fetching water, firewood, etc. The women are also supporting their husbands through petty trading. However, the husbands are not appreciative of this. No matter how hard a woman works at home, the husband can be strict with his wife. Husbands in this community could not tolerate the slightest mistake from their wives and would be quick to take offense and start shouting at the top of their voice. This used to be very common in our community. People would frequently hear their neighbours fighting and shouting with one another – the men abusing their wives and calling them bad names.
When your organization came to this community, they went to different areas and everyone was invited to view a drama on Fatima. They saw how lack of peace and support from Fatima’s husband and family members led to her losing her baby.
As a result of that, most men in our community no longer fight with their wives. These days you no longer hear people shouting, insulting or abusing one another. The men have decided to unite themselves even outside of their houses. They have formed groups to help each other with their different farm lands and even join hands together to repair and extend the community mosque which is by the entrance of the town.
The story is significant because without peace no society can develop. Through your organization our people have now understood the importance of living in peace at home and have also extended it to other aspects in their affairs in the community.
